optimum | Unique Motion Integration

Ali from Optimum takes an interesting approach to mounting our Sigma 6+ premium motion system to his Trakracer TRX rig.

The TRX was never intended for motion, or for mounting of the billet actuators, and so Ali designed and created a unique 3D-printed heavy-duty Nylon Carbon Fiber (PA6-CF) clamps that marry the billet motion actuators to the tubular frame.

This brings up an interesting point in our Motion Integrity philosophy here at Sigma. Our company name has always stood for the complete (Sigma) and proper integration (Integrale) of all the parts of the system to make a proper motion system. This means weighing compromises but also leveraging all the elements in the system which we divide into three main categories: software (algorithms), electrical and mechanical.

The quality of your overall haptic experience is only as good as:

1. Game Engine Simulation Data (Physics models, Telemetry Rate etc)
2. Processing speed (dedicated motion processor, latency etc.)
3. Algorithms or telemetry interpretation
4. Electrical sub systems (choice of servos, control loop and power systems) 
5. Mechanical systems (ball screw, piston, body)
6. Mounting or motion platform integration (type of connection, connection type)
7. Seat and seat slider (most intimate part of the simulator that allows you to feel the haptics) 
8. Your ability to perceive or reference the haptics to what you experience in real life (a full article on this another time)

The less parts and/or the better connected the parts are between the motor and the driver, the more of the Pure Haptics you feel. This is essential in getting us much of the haptics of the simulation engine as possible. And also why our billet made actuators are made from a solid piece of aluminum in one machine operation and feature 40-60% less parts than competing products, maintaining a high level of accuracy, rigidity and concentricity for a long service life.
