FAQ 9 - How loud is the motion system?

The answer to this question depends on various other factors or considerations but in short speed is energy, more speed is more energy which is more sound and noise as well.

In our internal testing, the DK6 system at full settings runs at about 55db max or equivalent to a quiet office setting. The controller fan runs at about 45 dB max.

Other considerations that effect sound levels is how high your settings in the Sigma software and what environment the system is installed in. High settings, specially road and engine vibrations will resonate a lot more than low settings with smoothing applied. Additionally, hollow floors, walls and thinner structures will reverberate more than solid concrete floors and walls, which tend to absorb sound much more. Smaller rooms will also make the Sigma motion seem louder as the sound waves bounce of the walls more quickly without dissipation. Some of our clients in apartments or multi dwelling units also run night settings where the engine vibrations are lowered at night, as not distress other people sleeping. ;-)

Installing gym mats or floor pucks underneath the actuator feet can dampen a majority of the sound and reverberation coming from the haptic system.
